Since 2015, the Cinewax association promotes African cultures through cinema. Its mission is to promote the stories of Africa and the diasporas in the world, by valuing the diversity and richness of the continent through the dissemination of quality works and inspiring models.

It implements several actions to achieve this objective: an original cultural program, screenings and festivals in a movie theater, a collaborative media, an online platform & festival, and recently, an image education program "  Cinewax Education ».

Since its inception, Cinewax has shown more than 200 African films.

Please use the above text to present the association.

Cultural events and programming

Since its creation, Cinewax has organized numerous festivals, film clubs and premieres, with more than 100 events held in France between 2015 and 2018, by bringing together more than 12,000 spectators. It offers an original and varied cultural program with unique indoor or outdoor formats, such as Clap Afrique, the cinéclub Univercine at Paris 3 University, the African documentary festival "Baatou Africa", the outdoor concept Cinewax Outdoors, until 2018.

She then continued her programming work with cinemas and other cultural venues (Preview of the film Atlantic by Mati Diop, at the Cinéma des cinéastes; the Fespaco in France over 3 days, and screening of the film La Miséricorde de la Jungle, by Joël Karekezi).

From the online festival to the Cinewax platform

In 2018, Cinewax created the concept the Online African Film Festival (OAFF), first online festival dedicated to African and diaspora films, with the desire to reach a global audience. Initially in the form of a month-long festival, with a selection of more than 30 fictional films, documentaries, short films and feature films, around a theme (African identity in 2018, The African dream in 2019). It organizes launch evenings in several cities for each edition (Paris, Brussels, London, Abidjan, Dakar, etc.).

After two editions, the festival becomes the Cinewax OAFF platform in October 2020, now available worldwide all year round, with the mission of showing “African stories worldwide”. The project is funded through a Kickstarter campaign in August 2020.

Cinema education

Created by the CINEWAX association in 2021, the program  Cinewax Education is the first film education program dedicated to discovering Africa's cinemas and its diasporas. It is presented as a catalog of films and a series of turnkey educational programs with projection, debate and cinema workshops, intended for young audiences and students. It is aimed at schools from primary to high school, as well as organizations in the educational and institutional network, in France and Senegal.
